Marian University seeks qualified applicants for a part-time Access Services Associate for the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library. This position is integral to the support of student learning and engagement. This non-benefit eligible position will work, on average, 25 hours per week (flexible) but some evenings and weekends will be required throughout the academic year. The Associate will report to the Acquisitions Librarian and will provide supervision of the day-to-day operations of resources sharing, Interlibrary Loan and archives services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assisting with circulation, reference, collection development, and stacks management, and occasional instruction duties through online or face-to-face.
• Acts as access services supervisor in the evenings and on rotating weekends. Performs circulation functions and provides other front-line desk services including assisting patrons with library resources and equipment. Supervises student workers and opens and closes library as scheduled ensuring compliance with facilities procedures.
• Mange scheduling and duties for student workers in the evenings, coordinating projects in circulation, reference, and collection development.
• Coordinates shelf-reading, weeding, stack maintenance, and tagging projects for student workers.
• Collects statistical data related to primary responsibilities in access services, and works closely with the Acquisitions librarian on projects or initiatives including coordinating occasional collection inventories.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University.
• A Bachelor’s degree plus one year of professional or related library experience. SLIS Master’s degree preferred; currently enrolled SLIS graduate students are encouraged to apply.
• Knowledge of general archival, digital services, and library principles, practices, and concepts.
• Familiarity with bibliographic utilities (OCLC), online library systems and databases, course management systems (Canvas), and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of the methods used in performing library research and bibliographic searches, including collections, integrated library systems, library reference tools, and sources.
• Accuracy and attention to detail; ability to analyze data and statistics.
• Flexibility appropriate for an active work setting, including schedule changes that are seasonal and/or respond to institutional needs, and the desire to participate in collaborative problem solving.
