The University of Tennessee at Martin, Paul Meek Library, is seeking applications for a tenure-track colleague in the role of Public Services Librarian. The library serves a population of 6,800 on-site and distance undergraduate and graduate students in Northwest Tennessee and five off-campus centers.
The University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) is a primary campus in the University of Tennessee System. It is located in beautiful, rural Northwest Tennessee, approximately 120 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles west of Nashville. Job Responsibilities
- Public Services
- Provide research services, including evening and weekend reference hours
- Facilitate access to resources via a variety of tools and formats
- Develop a set of best practices and policies for assigned public service areas
- Maintain current knowledge of and implement best practices in public services
- Work with colleagues in various areas to provide relevant services to patrons (Circulation, Special Collections, Information Literacy, Technical Services, etc.)
- Other Duties
- Act as liaison to designated departments, providing collection development, instruction as needed, and creation of LibGuides or tutorials as needed
- Participate in library assessment activities as required
- Progress successfully along the promotion and tenure track, and participate fully as a member of the university faculty including serving on internal library and campus-wide faculty and related committees
- Maintain awareness of trends and advances in the field by attending professional conferences, workshops, meetings, and other events
- Perform other duties as necessary
Required Qualifications
- Masters of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program before date of appointment
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
- Strong commitment to public service and ability to work with diverse users, staff, and faculty
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment, as well as independently
- Experience with and aptitude for Springshare Products
- Utility with electronic reference sources
- High degree of self-motivation
- Demonstrated presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Instructional and/or teaching experience, preferably in higher education environments
- Academic library experience
Salary/Benefits
This is a twelve-month appointment with faculty rank at the Assistant/Associate Professor level reporting to the Library Director. Salary will reflect the successful candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. Benefits include a choice of health and retirement plans, tuition waiver for self, and partial tuition waivers for dependents.
