Tulane University Special Collections (TUSC) is seeking MLIS student candidates for an internship to survey records and archival collections in the Tulane University Archives. Tulane University Archives, part of Tulane University Special Collections, holds the corporate records and archives of Tulane University’s administrative and academic departments comprised of over 12,000 linear feet of materials.
The goal of this internship is to work in a two-person team to survey a wide range of Tulane University Archives records, papers, and collections. Survey team members will evaluate material at the box level and enter qualitative and quantitative data into a Microsoft Access database. Other archival duties may be assigned as needed, such as rehousing and labeling, capturing data about archival items in other survey tools, or generating and interpreting reports from the database. Interns will be trained on survey techniques, archival practices and standards, data entry, and database management. Desired skills and attributes include being detail-oriented, responsive to feedback, and having a willingness to learn and communicate with team members and supervisors.
A stipend of $2500 is available for each intern. This internship can be used for credit in compliance with their MLIS degree requirements. This internship is expected to be in person on the Tulane University campus in New Orleans and will include remote work when necessary. Each internship will total 120 hours over a 12-week period (or a semester).
