About the Job:
This position will serve as a Library Services Seasonal Worker for the Multimodal Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The seasonal worker will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The successful applicant will report to Venetta Keefe.
A Day in the Life:
- Seeking a second year Technical Services or Archival Management library science student to complete an information service project for the Rail Service (RPO) Department. The selected candidate will create a cataloguing system for rail documents including Passenger Rail, Reference Materials, Code Administration and Grants. There are more than 4,000 documents in this cataloging project.
- The Rail Programs office is the regulatory department for the rail industry in the state, and as such has a statutory responsibility to maintain certain documents and records.
- Project can be used as a practicum or capstone project and is eligible for academic credit as LIS 606
What You’ll Need for Success:
- Working towards a master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences with a Technical Services, Archives Management or related specialization
- Relevant work experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT (provided)
- Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
- Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports.
- Analytical skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects.
- Ability to operate computer programs. (Will want specific program here; we’ll make it clear they can learn the interface, but they already need basic skills with database design)
- Good research and writing skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
- Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
