Internship Title: Special Collections Intern

Department: Indianapolis Special Collections Room

Reports to: Special Collections Librarian

Salary: $15 per hour

Start Date: August 2021

End Date: December 2021

Schedule: 20 hours per week

 

Internship Summary: The special collections internship at the Indianapolis Public Library provides the opportunity to gain familiarity with the breadth of library and archival responsibilities that will include processing a newsprint publication; archival arrangement and description; collection development; working with a donor; programming and displays.

 

Internship duties and responsibilities will include the following:

1. Process the donated copies of Branches Magazine.
2. Create a finding aid for the Branches Magazine.
3. Create a display for the magazine.
4. Create a program detailing the history of the magazine.

Education/Qualifications:

1. Current MLS/MLIS student with 3+ Arrangement and Description credits, OR at least 6 months practical Arrangement and Description experience.
2. Independent, reliable, collaborative worker, comfortable working alone or in a group.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Abilities:

1. Lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds and move them on a cart

The Indianapolis Special Collections Room is located on the 6^th floor of Central Library in downtown Indianapolis. The intern should be comfortable working in urban environments, collaborating with the special collections librarian and problem-solving.
