Position Description
The Library Services Coordinator (Evening Circulation Manager) steps into many of the responsibilities of the Circulation Manager for the evening hours. The Evening Circulation Manager manages the operation of the circulation area of the law library during the evening hours, including training and supervision of hourly employees, and is the senior authority in the library (and often the building) in the evening hours. Provides bibliographic searching and retrieval of library materials from all libraries at the request of law school faculty, student, and staff. Provides general reference assistance. Serves as initial contact for students, faculty, and the public regarding circulation requests, policies, procedures, and reference inquiries. Resolves problems and complaints. Responsible for developing and implementing stacks maintenance and collection management and organization projects. Assists with the preparation of manuals and training aids.
Duties include:
Manages the operation of the circulation area of the law library during evening hours: provides bibliographic searching and retrieval of library materials from all libraries at the request of law school faculty, student, and staff; fulfills requests for circulation and general reference assistance; maintains exam files.
Serves as initial contact for students, faculty, and the public regarding circulation requests, policies, procedures, and reference inquiries.
Resolves problems and complaints.
Manages faculty library accounts, including overdue notifications, and some faculty research projects.
Supervises hourly employees and circulation desk activities during evening hours, including noting and correcting errors in order for circulation duties to be performed correctly, interceding in circulation problems that are beyond the hourly workers’ scope, and providing them with guidance and direction.
The creation and implementation of training aids is also part of this responsibility to ensure that all staff understand circulation policies and procedures.
Develops, implements, and manages stack maintenance projects, including but not limited to: shelf-reading, shifting, weeding, collection reorganization, identifying out-of-date material, and ensuring that law library materials are kept in the correct places and in the correct order.
Responsible for closing and securing the law library. The Evening Circulation Manager is responsible for dealing with security, accessing campus door locking system when necessary, coordinating with Campus Facility Services in the evening as necessary, notifying Campus Safety Department when necessary and communicating with the responding officers, and responding appropriately to emergencies such as weather issues, campus closures, fire, etc. Also monitors facilities and equipment, requesting repairs and service as needed.
Manages the fulfillment of “requests for delivery” of library materials from other IU libraries, which includes locating books and articles that have been requested, processing them, packing them for shipment; processing books that arrive at the law library for law library patrons.
Manages interlibrary loan service, including borrowing and lending through OCLC Illiad, Odyssey, InfoExpress, and direct requests from local attorneys.
Recommends and implements policy and procedure changes; reviews the effect of changes on operations and recommends revisions.
Assesses library usage.
Participates in law library administrative meetings.
