A message from Beth Yates, Children’s Consultant at the Indiana State Library:
Youth services staff, administrators, and other library workers–
If you are looking for ways to better serve diverse youth (and adults) in your communities, I recommend you consider taking the FREE course “Project READY: Reimaging Equity and Access for Diverse Youth” by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). It was put together by a team of educators, library staff, and youth.
This course is not quick or easy, but it does have the potential to be impactful for your libraries, staff, and communities.
It consists of 27 self-paced modules that walk you through the foundations and history of race and racism, to transforming practice in libraries and communities, to continuing the journey through lifelong learning.
Cheri Harris, ISL’s Certification Program Director, has approved this course for 30 General LEUs upon completion.
Please note:
* Because of the format of this course and the importance of working through all of the modules, you cannot earn partial credit for completing just a few modules. You must complete all 27 modules to earn LEUs for this course. Please think of it as a college course-you must complete it to earn credit.
* This is a self-paced course. I recommend you work your way through it, doing a few hours of work each week, to make it more manageable. At this pace you could complete it in about 3 months. Of course, you are welcome to go slower if needed, or faster if you have time. There is no time limit.
* For maximum impact, consider forming a group of coworkers who go through the course at the same time, and hold periodic conversations to discuss what you’re learning. However, you can take it on your own if that is preferred.
* If no certificate is automatically generated upon completion of the course, please refer to “How do I document LEUs for Archived webinars” at the bottom of ISL’s Policies on LEUs website for instructions.
I have also committed to taking this course and will be working my way through it a few hours a week, as I have recommended to you. There is always room for greater understanding and improved practices!
