MCLS has an immediate opening for LIBRARY STRATEGIST. The Library Strategist participates in the developing, consulting, and training to libraries, conducting community conversations and other community engagement strategies. The strategist facilitates meetings and strategic planning retreats, and provides coaching to libraries on various topics and other aspects of MCLS’ work with libraries. The strategist designs and implements specific marketing activities and follows and helps MCLS strategize regarding technological, social, demographic, and other trends that are likely to significantly affect libraries.
The Library Strategist’s duties include:
- Providing a visible public presence and actively participate at library conferences and programs
- Facilitating meetings and conversations with and for libraries
- Supporting and delivering consulting services for libraries in Indiana and Michigan, including promoting services, interviewing libraries to determine needs, preparing quotes, designing and delivering solutions, and writing follow-up reports
- Designing, preparing and delivering training, presentations, and webinars
- Supporting and carrying out MCLS strategic planning consulting services by leading the community engagement aspects, providing retreat facilitation, collecting data, and compiling reports
The Library Strategist also:
- Travels to events and libraries in Michigan and Indiana
- Works as part of the Engagement, Consulting, and Training team
- Attends MCLS staff meetings
- Attends seminars and workshops related to general professional and personal growth
- Maintains knowledge of trends, practices and products in the library & information technology marketplace
Qualifications for the position include:
- MLS/MLIS plus 3 years of library experience, or equivalent combination of education and library experience; consulting experience a plus
- Successful project management experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse set of responsibilities and tasks both independently and as a team member
- Ability to travel in Michigan and Indiana; valid driver’s license and dependable transportation
- Ability to effectively work remotely when needed
- Current computer/software skills; ample and dependable internet access to conduct daily work, communications, and virtual conferencing

The salary range starts at $50,000
Supervision received from Manager of Engagement, Consulting and Training
