Lowell Public Library in Lowell, Indiana seeks a children’s programmer.
The Children’s Programmer oversees the daily operations of the Children’s Department and is in charge of the activities of that area. It is a person who loves working with children. The Children’s Programmer works under the direct supervision of the Director. The position is full-time, and salary is in the $22,000 to $31,000 range.
Qualifications:
- Ability to provide outstanding library services to children and families in ourcommunity.
- High School diploma required. College level degrees preferred.
- Two or more years of successful library or teaching experience is preferred. Must obtain Indiana
- Librarian certification LC6 or better within 1 year of employment, and maintain required certification levels.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to stand for periods of two to three hours.
- Ability to use a computer and familiarity with basic programming applications. Ability to plan, organize, direct and present programs and activities for the children’s department.
- Ability to handle difficult patrons.
- Have good knowledge of books, authors, periodicals and non-print materials and automation, especially pertaining to children.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Oversee, plan, develop, present and evaluate library services and programs for Children from birth to age 12.
- Plan and Present Summer Reading Club and Programs.
- Supervise the Children’s Desk.
- Perform duties of a circulation clerk and children’s reference resource.
- Participate in the selection of materials for the children’s department.
- Outreach services to the community through visits and collaborative efforts with schools, child care centers and other children-related organizations.
