Assistant Professor Angela P. Murillo was accepted to the inaugural cohort of Digital Faculty Fellows starting January 2019 for a 1-year term. The Digital Faculty Fellows are a community of faculty at IUPUI that are investigating and implementing digital courseware and adaptive learning tools and techniques into undergraduate courses. The purpose of the fellowship is to incorporate digital tools to improve course design for more effective in-class activities. Dr. Murillo will incorporate these techniques into the courses for the Applied Data and Information Science undergraduate program, Data Studies Minor, and Applied Data Science Minor. These tools and techniques will improve student engagement, instruction, academic performance, and retention, and are shown to significantly benefit the learning and success of students from underserved groups.
The Digital Faculty Fellowship is supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Academic Affairs, and is part of the Strategic Initiatives for the Office of Academic Affairs.
As part of the inaugural cohort, Dr. Murillo will begin by redesigning LIS S201 – Foundations of Data Studies for the Fall 2019 semester and will use the techniques for future course design of DLIS undergraduate courses.
