Through the use of local archives and digital tools that support local history and genealogical discovery, this course will explore digital heritage and gentrification. The histories of racial displacement and urban transformation on Indianapolis’ downtown canal will be the focus of this course to encourage critical inquiry into the significance of IUPUI’s 50th Anniversary and IU’s Bicentennial Celebration. Students in this course will conduct research with primary resources, explore social implications of economic development, and create online digital exhibits. The course will include guest speakers representing various aspects of Indianapolis community life.
