The Digitization and Metadata Assistant supports digitization initiatives at the State Library. This position will assist with building and providing access to the William Harrison Hays digital collection while adhering to Digital Imaging Standards and Best Practices for Indiana Memory and Digital Public Library of America digitization standards.
$15.00 per hour, 30 hours per week
Responsibilities
Capture analog materials on a flatbed, book and large format scanner; edit image files using Adobe Photoshop; create access copies from master files; generate transcripts using optical character recognition (OCR) software; and create metadata to describe digitized material
Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
Experience using digitization equipment and image editing software
Demonstrated knowledge of handling special collections material and using a content management system
Ability to bend, kneel, lift and carry boxes up to 40 lbs., reach over the shoulders, safely use book ladders and stools, and push book trucks
Interest in Rare Books and Manuscripts, Digital Libraries, Archives and Records Management, Museum Studies, and/or Public History
Bachelor’s degree preferred
