“Data Reuse for Local Community (https://dataforcommunity.com/)” project (PI: Dr. Ayoung Yoon, Co-PI: Dr. Andrea Copeland) is seeking for one or more enthusiastic student research assistant(s) who will be assisting survey data collection and cleaning starting July 2018.
The goal of this 3-year-project is to support community members’ data reuse by facilitating their connection with existing resources and data infrastructure in order to create equitable access to the vast stores of data being collected about their communities. The project focus is public libraries and at the end of project period the team will be developing educational resources for public librarians to work with community members and support community’s data needs.
This is IMLS funded project, and the student assistant(s) will receive an hourly rate of $13.00.
Graduate student research assistants will contribute up to 10 hours per week effort and will be responsible for the following activities:
- Survey data collection (paper based) as well as data entry and cleaning.
- Travel to 7-9 public libraries in Indiana is required during the summer (July to August). Applicants should have their own transportation as well as valid drivers’ license.
- Travel expenses will be reimbursed (e.g., mileage and meal)
- Travel to each public library may be more than one time.
- The cities to travel include, Fort Wayne, Gary, Indianapolis, Hammond, Carmel, Greenfield, Vevay, Warren, and English, IN.
Ideal candidates should have
- Strong interests in the topics on data reuse, data curation, open data, and public libraries (particularly regarding community engagement, community support).
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to be on-time
- Preferably already took LIS S505 Evaluation of Information Sources and Services or LIS S506 Introduction to Research
This RAship will start July 2018 and work until August 2018, with potential to be extended to Fall 2018.
