The Riley Block Family Library at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health has openings for Internships for fall semester.
The library, located within walking distance of the IUPUI campus, is similar to a public library. Collections include DVDs, video games, books for all ages including Spanish and early readers. The library also has consumer medical information and provides reference service. The library has a reading corner that has a “celebrity guest” each month. Riley Reading Time, produced, recorded and televised for viewing throughout the hospital within, (think Reading Rainbow) where the library also has 10 computers, and 4 gaming systems.
As an Intern, you will get a wide variety of experience. There are so many opportunities to do something meaningful.
Interns interested in Media Arts can create kid-friendly commercials, informational videos and multi- media reading programs.
Interns interested in Public Library Youth Services or School Library Services will also find a niche. The hospital has a school program, which the library supports. Interns may select materials, including educational websites and apps. The library would also like to start having weekly reading times in the library or on the units. Interns, will of course, be exposed to all the other “usual” library duties such as checking items in and out, weeding, shelf reading, labeling and cataloging. A self-driven Intern will find this opportunity to be very rewarding.
How to Apply: If you are interested in an Internship for the fall semester with the Riley Block Family Library, please send a resume to Dena Vincent at dvincent@iuhealth.org by Friday, June 29, 2018. Interviews will take place directly with Dena Vincent, and an intern selected for the semester. If you are selected, you will then complete the appropriate paperwork for the LIS S605 Internship, and register for S605.
Selected interns: A background check, health screening and orientation are all required prior to start of the internship placement. It is important to fulfill all deadlines in order to be on-boarded in a timely manner. Interns will receive a parking pass for each day worked.
For those individuals who cannot fit an Internship into their schedule, the library is starting a friends of the library group where you could be involved as much as you want. If you are interested in being a member of the friends group, please contact Dena Vincent by at dvincent@iuhealth.org or call 317-944-1149.
If you would like to volunteer there are many opportunities days/nights/weekend. Please email dvincent@iuhealth.org or call 317-944-1149 to set up a time to meet.
