About the Mission: The mission of the School Library System of the Genesee Valley (NY) Educational Partnership is “to lead collaboratively in creating quality solutions to emerging educational challenges.” It is also the basic job description for the job opening linked below. I need a librarian who can collaborate with an existing team of dynamic and creative school librarians to innovate solutions that meet the needs of our 22 member school districts and their library programs. We work in the rural school districts southwest of Rochester, NY, surrounding the agency’s central office on the banks of the Oatka Creek in Le Roy…but we imagine global solutions. That is why I am engaging in a national search for the next librarian to join this incredible team of school library professionals.
About the Position: This is a 12-month, Specialist of Library Technologies position that falls under the administrative benefits group. The position provides a high degree of independence and requires strong leadership skills. You will be responsible for implementing and leading within projects including telling me (the Director) what I need to do to help you be successful. The work is highly dynamic and includes imagining and delivering professional development to member librarians and teachers; creating and co-teaching lessons to students in districts on STEM, Makerspace, and computational thinking topics; and other general library support work to help our member libraries stay awesome (like occasional weeding days where the team descends on a library to help out). Plus, you get to play with our toys. Check out http://readyfor.today to see some of the things the team is working on.
About the Region: The Genesee Valley Educational Partnership is headquartered in Le Roy, NY, less than 30 minutes from downtown Rochester. Our region extends from the western most of the Finger Lakes to the beautiful (East Coast) mountains of the Southern Tier including the breathtaking Letchworth Gorge. We support the districts in Livingston, Genesee, and Wyoming, as well as part of Steuben Counties. As a growing high tech area with strong college anchors in Rochester, the region is known for unique food and music offerings. Yes, we get some snow, but it isn’t as bad as you might think as most of the Partnership region falls outside of the heaviest lake effect snow bands.
