Summary of Position
IUPUI University Library has a wonderful opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student to contribute to the library’s marketing and communications initiatives. The intern will engage with library users and campus partners through social, digital, and print media. With oversight from the library’s External Relations Team and Campus Outreach Group, they will be responsible for ensuring all content aligns with the overall campus marketing strategy, ensuring creative consistency and optimum content performance. The candidate should be a creative, detail oriented, multi-tasker who actively stays ahead of industry trends in order to contribute to the success of University Library across many platforms.
They will be a key member of the library’s Campus Outreach Group, which works to promote and engage students, faculty, and staff in library events, services, and resources. The intern will report to the Head of the Campus Outreach Group.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Journalist/Documenter of the daily experience of the library users and staff
- Contribute content to the library’s social media across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
- Participate in data collection and analysis related to student use of the library and engagement in social media channel
- Create digital and print media to promote library events, services, and resources
- Implement campus signage standards and unit branding
- Assist in the development of the library’s campus communication plan
- Assist in the curation of materials in the Library’s Popular Browsing Area, The Pop Shop
- Collaborate with library development team as needed
Qualifications:
Must be current IU or IUPUI student. The ideal candidate will possess good interpersonal skills, be attentive to detail and work well with a wide variety of people. Fluency with Microsoft Office Software Suite required. Experience with design software such as Photoshop, InDesign, Publisher, or Canva is preferred.
This is an ideal opportunity for a student pursuing a degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communications, Media Arts & Science, Visual Communication, or Library and Information Science, who wants social media, communication, and graphic design experience.
The position is 15-20 hours per week with a starting pay rate of $10.15 per hour. Internship credit available with approval from school/program.
A commitment for one academic year is required (September 2017-May 2018) with a potential summer re-appointment during June-July 2018.
