The William H. Miller Law Library in Evansville, IN is accepting
applications for a Law Librarian/Pro Se Coordinator. The William H. Miller
Law Library is funded by the county and the Vanderburgh County Law Library
Foundation. The Law Librarian/Pro Se Coordinator is an employee of the
Circuit Court.
The Law Librarian/Pro Se Coordinator is responsible for the following
duties:
1. Caring for the physical space, including overseeing the
collections
2. Providing customer service to law library users, including
reference assistance, answering directional questions, troubleshooting
equipment, and fulfilling photocopy and fax orders.
3. Responding to questions in person, via e-mail, and via telephone.
4. Processing library materials.
5. Processing library materials and maintaining library accounting
records.
6. Managing photocopier administration, including managing attorney
accounts and billing.
7. Overseeing the administration of the Law Library Foundation by
facilitating membership mailing, processing, reporting, monthly reports,
billing, meeting preparation, and attending Foundation board meetings.
8. Tracking and submitting invoices for county-funded library
materials.
9. Preparing the library’s annual budget.
10. Maintaining the library website.
11. Consulting with pro se litigants and encouraging pro se parties to
seek legal representation when necessary.
12. Directing pro se parties to resources that may assist them within the
Law Library, or outside resources, if necessary.
13. Referring pro se parties to agencies and programs to assist or
coordinate assistance.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A successful applicant must have the ability to assist library users in
locating legal information and resources. Applicants should have a working
knowledge of the government and legal system, and the ability to make
appropriate referrals to other agencies. Applicants should have
demonstrated ability to locate and evaluate online legal resources, and to
assist others in doing the same. Applicants should also have demonstrated
ability to access legal information and law from print sources.
Applicants should be self-starting, energetic, and ambitious with an
interest in the future of libraries and updating both print and electronic
resources to maximize the library?s benefit to current and future users.
The librarian should have exceptional interpersonal skills, and an ability
to work with the public, legal community, library community, local academic
community, local legal aid agencies, and court staff.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master of Law Library Science Degree
Preferred.
