Job Title: Systems Administrator
Reports to: Director
Hours per week: 37.5 (full-time)
Salary commensurate with education and experience
Job Objective:
The Systems Administrator ensures the smooth operation of the library
system?s data and phone networks, computer hardware and software, and
improves the overall use of technology by library staff and patrons.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma and a minimum of 5 years? experience in
information technology OR college diploma or Microsoft certification
(MCSA/MCSE) preferred
2. Must be able to analyze and resolve networking, hardware and software
problems
3. Must be able to evaluate and plan for new technologies
Essential Requirements
1. Must have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Servers and Windows
workstations
2. Must have knowledge of HTML (Adobe Dreamweaver knowledge a plus)
3. Must have knowledge of computer components
4. Must be able to effectively plan for and implement new equipment
and software
5. Must be able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities
6. Must be able to negotiate with third-party vendors to purchase new
equipment and software
7. Must have good problem-solving skills
8. Must be able to effectively ascertain and handle problematic
situations
9. Must be able to work cooperatively with staff and patrons
10. Must be able to plan and organize work efficiently
11. Must be able to commute between branches
12. Strong writing and verbal skills preferred
13. Must be dependable
14. Must be able to effectively juggle multiple projects and deadlines
15. Must be able to carry out emergency procedures when necessary
16. Must have good memory for facts and routines
17. Must be willing to attend classes, roundtables, and conferences in
order to keep abreast of advances in technology
Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
1. Providing technical support for patrons and staff
2. Administering all software (including ILS) and maintain accounts for
end users
3. Software installation, maintenance, and upgrading
4. Hardware installation, maintenance, and upgrading
5. Researching and troubleshoot all hardware and software issues
6. Maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading network devices
7. Ability to teach computer skills
8. Maintaining data backups
9. Training and assisting staff and patrons in using hardware and
software
