Assistant Professor – Social Sciences Librarian
Reporting to the director of Research and Instruction Services, the Social Sciences Librarian supports the UNO Libraries’ vision as inclusive and engaged centers for teaching, learning, research, and service. Working in a team-based, collaborative environment, the Social Sciences Librarian will: build strong relationships with students, faculty, and staff; provide virtual and in-person research consultations; engage in active information literacy instruction; develop quality physical and electronic collections; and deliver expertise in data collection and analysis. In addition, the Social Sciences Librarian fulfills requirements of faculty status in areas of contributions to librarianship, scholarly activities, and service. Subject area responsibilities include Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Black Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Native American Studies, Latino/Latin American Studies, Gerontology, Social Work, Sociology/Anthropology, and Political Science.
Requirements
ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science. Desire and ability to teach hands-on, active information literacy instruction. Broad understanding of tools and resources for conducting academic research, and the ability to provide research services in a wide range of subject areas. Competency with a variety of technologies and willingness to explore new software and devices. Familiarity with data collection and analysis in the social sciences. Successful project management in a collaborative environment. Ability to set and attain goals effectively. Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, communication and written skills. Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with a diverse university community. Must be flexible and capable of working successfully individually as well as in teams in a changing library environment.
