The department congratulates Rachel Williams for winning this year’s Jesse H. Shera Award for Dissertation Research.
Her dissertation is entitled Performing Boundary Work: An Exploration of Public Library Workers’ Provision of Information Services to People Experiencing Homelessness, and the reviewers had this to say about it:
This unique and important research, combined with the topic’s societal significance, can contribute to better supporting library staff serving people experiencing homelessness. The findings have the potential to support adding other community services to libraries, such as a visiting social worker.
Rachel is a doctoral candidate at UW-Madison’s iSchool. She will defend her dissertation this semester. She currently teaches S506 Introduction to Research in the department.
