The PAM Librarian will be responsible for collections and responsive services to research and teaching faculty, staff, and students in the Physics, Astronomy, and Mathematics and Statistics departments, in addition to being a library liaison to the associated units:  Center for Applied Mathematics, Applied & Engineering Physics and Operations Research & Information Engineering.  The PAM Librarian will report to the Director of the Science and Technology Libraries on the vision, mission and responsibilities of the library, will work with the Science and Technology Libraries (STL) Administrative Manager on access services matters, and collaborate with the current Mathematics Librarian, Chemistry Librarian and the two Engineering Librarians on services and collections. The PAM Librarian will report to the Director of the Science and Technology Libraries on the vision, mission and responsibilities of the library, will work with the Science and Technology Libraries (STL) Administrative Manager on access services matters, and collaborate with the current Mathematics Librarian, Chemistry Librarian and the two Engineering Librarians on services and collections. Specific responsibilities will include:

• Cultivating and maintaining strong working relationships and partnerships with research and teaching faculty, staff and students as well as with Cornell, national and international stakeholders, and working collaboratively across the Sciences and Technology Libraries team
• Reference consultations, outreach, instruction, and departmental liaison activities
• Citation management, scholarly communications, and assessment of emerging data curation needs
• Developing the collection of journals, books, databases, and digital projects, and managing the associated budget
• Understanding pertinent literature and how it is used in the physics, astronomy, mathematics, statistics, applied and engineering physics, operations research and information engineering disciplines
• Providing expertise and support in the technical development and data management areas for the Science and Technology Libraries.
• Serving on appropriate Cornell University Library groups and committees, actively engaging in professional development endeavors including scholarly societies and conferences (both attending and presenting, as well as committee work).

Required Qualifications:

• MLS or appropriate graduate degree
• Academic background in the sciences, mathematics, or engineering
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team-based environment
• Strong communication (oral and writing), interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Strong service orientation and interest in users’ values and needs
• Self-motivation to use initiative and work creatively
• Aptitude for learning digital collection management and electronic resource management
• Demonstrated awareness of national and international issues and trends in sciences librarianship and information technology

Preferred Qualifications:

• Academic degree/advanced degree in the sciences, mathematics, or engineering
• Prior work experience in an academic or special library
• Aptitude for learning data management and manipulation
• Grant writing and lecturing experience
