Year End ePTO and Pay Date Reminders

PTO Changes for 2020 ONLY:

  • Any PTO that cannot be carried over into 2021 will be moved to Sick time (i.e. employee’s transfer to Sick isn’t limited to 96 hours this year). Employees whose PTO balance is under the carryover limit may still choose to allocate PTO to Sick.
  • If your office is closed for the holidays and an employee does not have enough eligible time off to cover it, the employee may apply ANP (Anticipated PTO), which will allow their PTO balance to go negative temporarily. (Typically this option is reserved for employees hired 10/1 or after.)

Holiday Use Reminder:

  • Unused 2019 holiday hours expire at the end of this year.  If staff do not use these holidays, they lose them.
    • For support, service, and PAO & PAU staff, Holiday time off earned in 2019 must be used by December 26, 2020.
    • For PAE staff, Holiday time off earned in 2019 must be used by December 31, 2020.
  • Staff who transferred or were reclassified from Biweekly to Monthly in 2019-2020 may have available HOL accrual balances but won’t have the option to use the hours in their drop-down list of time-off codes. Transferred HOL hours must be applied manually, so please send an email to kpizana@iusb.edu to use these hours.

Year-End Pay Dates:

  • For support, service, and PAO & PAU professional staff, the last pay date of 2020 is
    December 24, 2020, for time worked between November 29, 2020 and December 12,
    2020.
  • PAE professional staff will receive pay for work during December 2020 on January
    4, 2021.

First Friday Innovation Conversation

Join the conversation about “Sustainability, Education, Peace and Community Building with Solar.” Tyler Kanczuzewski, Vice President of Marketing and Sustainability, Inovateus Solar, will describe how the benefits and sustainability of solar farms and solar rooftops, zero-waste operations, energy efficiency, pollinator grass and end of life cycle planning for products and materials make solar the optimal renewable energy choice of the current era.

By focusing on sustainability, education, peace and community building there is great opportunity for more jobs in this industry. more ways to bring together communities, and more ways to educate people about how to live more in balance with nature.

Throughout the 2020-2021 academic year, the Center for a Sustainable Future will showcase local sustainability and innovation leaders to share how and why they are working to transform South Bend and the greater region into an innovative and sustainable place.

The theme of the talks is “Seeing Systems,” which invites speakers to make and share connections between social justice, sustainability, community building, peace building efforts, and more.

Advancing Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium Nov 6

IUPUI’s Advancing Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium is open to faculty and staff from institutions across Indiana. The virtual symposium will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 6th and begins with an interesting keynote session on Creating Equitable and Inclusive Online Classrooms with Dr. Kelly Hogan and Dr. Viji Sathy of the University of North Carolina. They will discuss teaching strategies that emphasize structured active learning and can create more equitable classrooms and improve learning for all students. Their focus will be on teaching in live Zoom meetings and in asynchronous online courses.

Additionally, two sets of concurrent sessions will feature a variety of topics pertinent to technology and the current pandemic teaching situation. There is no cost to attend the symposium.

Presidential Search Virtual Town Hall

You are invited to give input on the search for Indiana University’s next president through a town hall Thursday, Nov. 5. The IU Board of Trustees’ presidential search advisory committee is gathering feedback on three key questions:

  • What major challenges and opportunities will the next president inherit?
  • What type of person will be best prepared to address the challenges and explore opportunities in terms of leadership style, experience, financial acumen, views, etc.?
  • What highlights can the search committee and advisory committee share with candidates unfamiliar with IU and Indiana.

IU faculty, staff and students and members of the public can share their feedback during this town hall session. Participants are requested to register to attend the session:

Comments may also be sent to the search advisory committee at info@rwilliamfunk.com  by Nov. 6.

The advisory committee will present its report to the search committee by Nov. 13. The Board of Trustees’ intent is to have a new leader in place when President Michael A. McRobbie retires in June 2021. Updates about the search will be posted on the presidential search page on the Board of Trustees website.
