Book Drive • Date: Monday – Friday • Location: Boxes for donations will be in the CUBE Throughout the entire week, we will have a book drive where ISO can collect used books/school supplies, or educational materials for donation to schools abroad or homeless shelters within South Bend. Students, staff, and faculty can include a “Note of Hope or Favorite Quote” station, where you can write short encouragement notes for recipients.

National Native American Heritage Month is celebrated each year in November. It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages and stories of Native American and Alaska Native communities and ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation. The observance began in the early 20th century with efforts from Native leaders like Dr. Arthur C. Parker and Red Fox James (Blackfoot Nation), who advocated for a day to honor the “First Americans.”

In 1916, New York became the first state to declare an American Indian Day. Decades later, in 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed a joint congressional resolution designating November as National American Indian Heritage Month. Since then, every U.S. president has issued annual proclamations recognizing the month.

Native American Heritage Month celebrates the diversity, traditions, languages, and history of Indigenous peoples, while also raising awareness about ongoing challenges Native communities face such as sovereignty, education, and health disparities. It’s a time for both celebration and reflection, honoring the past and empowering the future.

The Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program is a prestigious two-week leadership academy held every June at the American Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, DC. Students who are selected receive a $3,000 scholarship.

The Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program begins with two weeks of intense training, mentoring, and networking to help you develop your leadership skills, discover your purpose, and prepare for your bright future. And that’s just the beginning: you will return to campus with a life-saving mission of organizing Red Cross blood drives for your classmates and community.  Students who are selected receive a $3,000 scholarship.

Through the Collegiate Leadership Program, you’ll become part of a special tradition of young people who work with the American Red Cross, the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to:

• Inspire a new generation of Red Cross volunteers and leaders
• Champion a philanthropic cause
• Impact local communities
• Empower through training, mentoring, and networking opportunities
• Foster leadership opportunities

Come to the O’Brian Park Trash Grab on Friday, November 14 at noon! Students in the Honors Program are organizing a trash cleanup day at O’Brian Park (321 E Walter Street South Bend, IN) to restore it. While the week started off a little chilly, the forecast for Friday promises sunshine and 60 degrees. This is a great opportunity to get some fresh air and sun before the winter sets in for good.

The city of South Bend will be providing gloves and trash pickers. Please RSVP on Titan Atlas so the students can have your goody bag ready!
