Neighborhood Parking Reminder

A friendly reminder that students, faculty and staff should not park in the campus-adjacent residential neighborhoods where there are restricted parking signs. Our neighbors need those spaces in front of their homes and there is a $50 fine for parking in those restricted areas..

Parking is also limited to two hours on Mishawaka Avenue. Those spaces are for customer access to businesses on the street and short-term parking. You may be ticketed there as well if you exceed the prescribed time.

Please be good neighbors and park in designated areas only.  Thank you. 

Upcoming American Red Cross Club Meeting

Are you interested in joining a collection of volunteers who aid, support, and educate people from all over the country? Consider joining the American Red Cross Club at IUSB! We work with local Red Cross staff members and fellow volunteers to serve our campus and community through blood drives, trainings, and educational outreach. We look forward to an event-filled year and are excited to have you join us! Find Equipment, Datasets, and other resources at IU

As you know, IU holds an impressive array of specialized research equipment, resources, datasets, and other tools.  Creating a searchable database of shareable research equipment and tools has long been an express goal of IU Bloomington and was part of the IU Bloomington’s Bicentennial Strategic Plan.  Sherry Knighton-Schwandt, assistant vice provost for research development at IU Bloomington has been working with UITS to expand the database/website of equipment and tools to include all IU campuses but it currently only reflects resources at IU Bloomington viewable here – https://equipment-tools.research.iu.edu.  This website and database brings these valuable assets together in one spot, where it will be easier and more efficient for researchers to find them and information about how to access them. Contact information for facilities housing the equipment is provided for easy contact.

Later in the fall semester, we will announce this new website broadly to faculty. For now, though, I invite and encourage you to test the new site and its functions, as well as add your shared resources to the database/website. Recording Time Off Reminder

Since March of 2020, HR has advised employees to use either PNL (PTO) or VNL (Vacation) when recording time off. Some employees were still using the old codes, so in an effort to have cleaner data we have turned off the PTO and VAC codes in Kuali Time. Review the FAQ from HR if you have any questions: https://hr.iu.edu/relations/coronavirus/faq-c.html

Please continue to use PNL and VNL for the remainder of the year.

Nomination Period Extended to August 27, 2021 for the Chancellor’s Employee Service Awards

Many staff have shown great skill in adapting to all of the challenges presented in the last year, in addition to supporting others to do the same. Let’s recognize this good work! Nominations for the Chancellor’s Awards for Community Engagement, Innovation, Learner-Centered Commitment to Service and Outstanding Student Employee are being accepted now through August 27.

Nominations may be made by any member of the IU South Bend Community including faculty, staff, and students. Employees eligible include full time staff, hourly with retirement and student employees.

The recipient will:

  • Receive a $300 monetary award
  • Receive a reserved parking space for 3 months
  • Receive a framed certificate
  • Be recognized at a casual reception

Sing in the Choir

If you love to sing, why not join the IUSB choir? Our non-auditioned choir is open to all students, staff, and faculty, and meets on Mondays/Wednesdays, 1:00-2:15 pm in Northside Hall room 026. Just show up to a rehearsal in the first week of school to join! This semester will include performing in the Raclin Sock Hop, our fun and festive holiday concert, as well as combining forces with IUSB’s Wind Ensemble. Come have fun singing, make new friends, participate in musical excellence, and find a place to belong in our musical community! For students, register for MUS-X 70, course # 27250, for 0-2 credits.
