WGS Public Forum Talk, Friday, September 3, Noon-1pm

Students, faculty and staff are invited to the September 3 Public Forum presentation by Dr. Rebecca Kinsey and Dr. Stacie Merken. The talk is titled: “Predicting Career Commitment for Educators during COVID-19.”

The event will be held from noon until 1 pm in DW1190.

This talk is part of a year-long Public Forum series hosted by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program.

Abstract:

We recruited 249 K-12 and college educators in June and July 2020. Participants completed measures of overall perceived stress, workplace stress, work meaning, and career commitment along with a demographics questionnaire. We also gathered data about length of time educators had to transition to virtual learning. We hypothesized educators who had higher rates of stress would be less committed to their careers compared to those with lower rates of stress. In addition, we predicted educators who had more perceived meaning in their work would be more committed to their careers compared to those lower in work meaning. Findings and implications will be discussed.

Grubhub Now Accepting CrimsonCard as Payment!

It’s official. GrubHub now accepts CrimsonCard as a form of payment, giving all CrimsonCard holders access to over 300,000 restaurants in over 4,000 U.S. cities. That’s huge! Here’s how to get started…

1) Download the Grubhub app and create an account
2) Tap Account > Campus Dining and select IU South Bend
3) Add your CrimsonCard as a payment option by going to Settings < Payment < Add payment option
4) Choose the correct form of payment for your order
5) Order and enjoy your food

Wait, we’re not done yet. It gets even better! Once your CrimsonCard is connected to your Grubhub account, you’ll receive a $10 Grubhub perk. Plus, you’ll be eligible to receive Grubhub+ FREE for an entire year which means no delivery fees! Simply be on the lookout for an email from Grubhub inviting you to join the club.

Once you’re set up with Grubhub, it’s time to make sure funds are in your CrimsonCash account. Students can easily bill a CrimsonCash deposit to their bursar account, and funds are instantly available. Employees can make a deposit by authorizing a recurring deduction from each paycheck to be deposited into their CrimsonCash account (Payroll Prepay) or by using a credit/debit card. Employees can also enroll in Payroll Advance. This option allows purchases to be made with the CrimsonCard – up to a certain limit – and those purchases are deducted from the employee’s next paycheck.

Despite the pandemic, or maybe particularly because of, we would like to continue to recognize an exemplary Professional staff member for their outstanding performance this past school year.

Since the HR job restructure, this may very likely be the last year of a separate recognition of staff, and therefore the Professional Staff Spirit Award. We plan to recognize this award at the Annual Staff Appreciation Day on September 28th.

Please take a moment to nominate a most deserving colleague for this award.

Criteria for award: Must be full time appointment & have 2 or more years of continuous service to IU South Bend. Demonstration of a positive attitude toward position and the University; exemplary work performance, good attendance record, & demonstrated special effort toward improving IU South Bend for the benefit of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other University associates with IU spirit!

We want the opportunity to recognize those members of the Professional Staff who continually serve with a positive, courteous and professional attitude creating a favorable impression of Indiana University South Bend. We seek to celebrate spirit and positive attitude.

Road to Retirement

If you are interested in learning about your options for retirement, or if you are thinking about retiring in the next 5 years, don’t forget to sign up for the virtual retirement planning series, Road to Retirement, offered by IU Human Resources.

Who should attend?
The series is targeted to those who are within 5 years of retirement. Even if you are not planning to retire in the next 5 years, if you are age 65 or older you could greatly benefit from the Medicare, Social Security, and HSA sessions so you are aware of the impact these have on your benefits. Spouses and partners are welcome to attend the sessions with you.

What will I learn?
Not only will you learn about retirement essentials like Medicare, Social Security, retirement income, and IU Retiree Status and benefits, but you’ll also leave with resources and next steps to help you develop a well-organized plan―or “roadmap”―for your retirement.

How do I register?
You must register for each session you wish to attend by following the links on the Road to Retirement web page. You can attend all of the sessions or just those topics that interest you.

OCM 3-2-1: Start of Fall

The Office of Communications and Marketing strives to be a helpful resource for our campus partners. Check out these communication and marketing best practices so you can get your fall semester off to a successful start:

3 Things to Remember:

  1. Events Calendar – Hosting an event? As soon as your event details are finalized, be sure to post it on your area’s LiveWhale events calendar (for schools/departments) or TitanAtlas (for student club/organizations) – it will then automatically populate onto the overall IU South Bend Calendar on the Events section of the campus website. If your area needs its own calendar, submit a web services request to have one added to your website. 
  2. Digital Signs – There are nine digital sign monitors throughout campus –  don’t miss out on this opportunity to provide valuable information about your events, services, hours of operation, and more. OCM can upload a graphic you design or create one on your behalf. Submit a digital sign request here. Have a digital sign currently running? Take a look to make sure the information is still accurate for the new semester. 
  3. Daily Titan – Promote your events on the Daily Titan, the official source for campus news and announcements. A good rule of thumb is to submit a post 1 to 2 weeks in advance to build awareness of your event, as well as a post about two days in advance as a final reminder. The submission form is linked at the bottom of every Daily Titan email newsletter. Note: Please submit your Daily Titan request by 2:00 PM the business day before your desired run date. Monday morning posts must be submitted before 2:00 PM on Friday. 

2 Items to Review:

  1. Website – Your website is your most crucial marketing and communication tool. Before each semester starts, look over your website content to ensure all information is up-to-date, such as contact information and faculty/staff listings. Need new portraits for your website? We can help! Submit a photo request to get scheduled for a professional shoot. 
  2. Marketing Materials – Check out your supply levels of any marketing materials you use for prospective or current students to see if you need any reprints. This is also an opportune time to consider if new materials need to be ordered to fit your needs. Not sure of the best options to reach your audience? Partner with us to brainstorm ideas and create the marketing pieces that help you get your message across.
