U.S. Department of State’s Gilman-McCain Scholarship
$5,000 scholarship opportunity for undergraduate child dependents of active duty service members to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs.

This opportunity was developed under the framework of the State Department’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, the John McCain International Scholarship for the Children of Military Families (Gilman-McCain Scholarship) is open to eligible students enrolled at accredited U.S. colleges and universities who receive any type of Title IV federal financial aid.

The Gilman-McCain Scholarship is a congressionally funded initiative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State  and named after the late senator John S. McCain from Arizona. With the support of the U.S. Congress, this scholarship honors the Senator’s legacy of public service by enabling undergraduate children of active duty military to develop the leadership and career readiness skills and global perspective to pursue careers of service and contribute to preserving the principles and alliances that are critical to an international order based on the rule of law, human rights, and democracy.

Application Deadline:
The Gilman-McCain Scholarship application is currently open and continuing to accept applications. The next deadline is October 6 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

More than 14,000 accounts will be affected.

The Sitehost and Pages storage systems will be migrated over the next two weeks. The Pages migration is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Sitehost updates will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

On the morning of the migrations, users will be unable to log in or publish. Account owners will be notified prior to the updates, and access to all systems will be restored by 8am on the migration date.

IU South Bend’s Online Scholarship Application (OSA) is open for the 2021-2022 school year. Applications are due March 1, 2021.

This application allows you to be considered for over 200 scholarships from the IU Foundation, Alumni Association, and IU South Bend academic departments.

You can access the OSA by logging into your One.iu.edu portal and search “scholarship” for the “IU Scholarships” tile.  After you submit the application, you may be notified via the scholarship platform of additional scholarships the require you to “APPLY TO”.    You may be required to provide additional supplemental documentation.

Terry L. Allison, Professor of English and former chancellor IU South Bend, was recently appointed as part-time Executive Director of LGBTQ Presidents in Higher Education, an independent, not-for-profit organization. Dr. Allison is seeking a student worker, with strong preference for a graduate student, to assist him with the social media and communications of the organization. This can be a work study or a paid hourly position, depending on the student’s eligibility and match to the job. (In other words, if you’re the right student for the job and don’t have work study, please apply and you will receive full consideration!) The budget for this position includes fifteen (15) hours per week at up to $15/hr for forty (40) weeks per year. The student can begin immediately. The funding for this position at IU South Bend will continue up to three years.

The Media and Communication Assistant must be in strong support of the mission of LGBTQ Presidents in Higher Education. The current website link is here: www.lgbtqpresidents.org

Here are the duties of the Media and Communication Assistant:

• The Media and Communication Assistant must be able to update the website regularly and have web skills adequate to provide continuing improvement of the website.
• The student worker must maintain mailing lists and send out online and physical mailings.
• The student worker will work with Excel files to record expenditures, track renewals of services, etc.
• The student worker will assist the Executive Director in preparing for online and in-person meetings of the board of the organization, taking minutes at meetings and preparing drafts for the Executive Director. If the pandemic permits, the student will be requested to attend and assist at in-person conferences and meetings. This is a possibility, but not a requirement of the job.
• The student worker will assist the Executive Director in planning for conferences, making telephone calls, schedule Zoom and telephone calls for the Executive Director, helping the host institution in setting up registration and assisting committee chairs as needed.

The Media and Communication Assistant must be able to work remotely and independently under the supervision of the Executive Director, carefully accounting for time spent working and budgeting time efficiently to complete tasks.
