On behalf of the staff of the CITL, I want to pass along my condolences to our colleagues at Michigan State University, who are experiencing the trauma of a mass shooting on their campus. Our thoughts are with the faculty, staff, and students of MSU as they deal with this tragedy.
Whenever we hear of such tragedies, we remind instructors that our own students may be feeling a range of emotions upon hearing such news–sadness, anxiety, worry, and more. Some may have friends or family at MSU, and others may feel worry at the news of a shooting happening at a campus much like our own. It is always worth a moment in class to note such an event and its possible impact on students. See our page on Teaching during a Crisis for more ideas on how to address such incidents.
And if you or your students have concerns about our safety at IUB, consider looking at the Protect IU site’s guidance on emergency procedures.
