Many people do not know that for years our SoTL program has kept a running bibliography of SoTL work done on the IUB campus and has published this on the CITL website. For those who were aware of its existence, you are also most likely aware of the archival focus of the bibliography and lack of user-friendliness. I am excited to announce that we have shifted the focus on the bibliography and improved it.
Since the fall 2017 semester, the SoTL graduate student, Amy Minix, has been working to shift the static, archival, pdf bibliography into a dynamic searchable database. Amy’s area of study is library and information sciences, providing the SoTL program with an unique opportunity to leverage this expertise. The new database allows users to search past SoTL work undertaken by IUB faculty members and graduate students by keyword, broad discipline, name, etc. If the resource is open access, users will find a link to the document for easy access. Our hope is that by transforming this bibliography we can shift the focus from an archival record to a user-friendly resource for those currently involved with or interested in becoming involved with SoTL work.
In addition to the dynamic database, Amy has created a new submission form for IUB faculty members and graduate students who wish to have their work included in the database. In the past, the SoTL graduate student sent a targeted email to known SoTL researchers asking for any new work that should be included in the database. Now you will be able to submit your work at any point during the year for inclusion in the database.
Another way we are shifting the focus from archival record to dynamic resource is through the limitation of content to publications and presentations and the removal of awards. This is intentional to connect individuals searching the database with SoTL evidence.
You can access the database on the SoTL portion of the CITL webpage. If you have work you would like to see included in the database, please complete the submission form. If you would like to learn more about uncovering the world of SoTL literature, consider attending the upcoming SoTL Brownbag.
