The third quarter of 2018 was a busy one for the development team. Twelve projects were prioritized for development in June, by the end of September, we plan to have completed eight projects (two of which were prioritized by the PSC) and have made significant progress on seven others (6 of which were prioritized by the PSC).
OVPUE Events System
The OVPUE Events System automatically manages event registrations, display, communications, and HTML emails for any OVPUE department. Currently in use for the Hutton Honors College and NSA.
National Scholarships and Awards Website
NSA Website replaces the IUCare website. Includes a new award database that’s easy to maintain and searchable.
Spelling and Broken Link Reports
Quarterly reports run by OVPUE IT and uploaded to Box will help OVPUE departments clean up their websites.
Explore Programs Tool Updates
Accessibility and usability updates to the Explore Programs tool will make it even more powerful and easy to use. Better legends and labels throughout the application make it easier for new students to navigate the complicated landscape of first courses.
CDC Major Guides
OVPUE IT and CDC are in the final stages of testing for CDC’s Major Guides, an extension of the Explore Programs tool that includes career information for each major. Each major has a description, a list of related careers, career interests, related skills, student organizations, a sample resume, related majors, and associated career guides, as well as a direct link to the major’s academic information on the explore programs tool.
Hutton Courses Updates
The Hutton Honors College course listings now include bulletin/faculty descriptions to courses, links to iGPS Course Search for scheduling and long-form information where the previous abbreviated versions were confusing for students. Courses can now be “opened” in a modal by clicking on the course. Some interface elements were also re-arranged to make it easier to find filters and sorting functionality on the listing.
Other Completed Projects
In addition to the publicly available projects listed above, we also completed accessibility, usability, SEO, and performance audits on all OVPUE websites, and updated the OVPUE Data Reporting System to use a new database server, and to have access to application and reporting databases housed on our new production database server.
