Elizabeth Dietrich: Your 2021 Kate Hevner Mueller Awards Recipient

Kate Hevner Mueller served Indiana University from 1937 to 1969 as Dean of Women, Senior Counselor for Women, and Professor of Education. Dr. Mueller was a national pioneer for women professionals and developed the Master’s Program in College Student Personnel (Higher Education and Student Affairs) at Indiana University in the early 1950s. The Kate Hevner Mueller Senior Awards were established in 2013 to honor IU seniors who have proven leadership on campus both inside and outside of the classroom and who have improved the IU community by their presence.

This year, Indiana University has selected 28 outstanding recipients for the Kate Hevner Mueller Outstanding Senior Award. In this article, we congratulate Elizabeth Dietrich for her ability to represent Dr. Mueller’s essential goals of the university: to promote intellect, develop personality, and inspire citizenship and leadership to all students.

Elizabeth Dietrich

Elizabeth is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from the Luddy School of Informatics. She served in various leadership roles in Panhellenic Council: as a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, as the Panhellenic Recruitment Computer Director, and the Panhellenic Vice President of Recruitment. During her time as the Panhellenic Vice President of Recruitment, Elizabeth coordinated all recruitment activities for over 6,000 women amidst the challenging landscape of COVID-19. This included moving orientation sessions to Canvas courses, which allowed them to expand the content to not only learn about the recruitment process, but also learn ways to navigate their mental health. She also developed equity and inclusion practices to make the Greek community more inclusive and accessible to students. While managing this responsibility within Panhellenic Council, Elizabeth also received academic distinction for her undergraduate research in the Department of Physics and Bioinformatics Department, and was recognized as the IU Department of Computer Science Outstanding Scholar.

Elizabeth sees the value in those that supported her throughout her time at Indiana University. She wanted to offer her thanks to “her advisors and family for all of the support throughout her college career.”
