Created in 1961 by the Indiana Memorial Union Board of Directors, the esteemed Herman B Wells Distinguished Senior Award honors outstanding seniors that have excelled academically and are established leaders within the IU community.
This year, we are proud to honor Jordan Davis with the 2022 Herman B Wells Award for her academic excellence, established leadership, and ability exemplify the spirit of Herman Wells during her journey at IU.
Jordan’s Academic Accomplishments
Jordan is a William R. Fry Scholar at the Kelley School of Business graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, co-majoring in International Business, and minoring in Spanish. She has excelled in her studies with a 3.96 GPA while taking difficult coursework through the highly selective Kelley Honors program and Hutton Honors College. During the Fall 2021 semester, she expanded her global knowledge by studying abroad in Seville, Spain. She dove headfirst into Spanish culture by only speaking Spanish for four months, living with a host family, joining organizations at the University of Sevilla, while gaining the Certificate of Linguistics and Language Fluency Exchange, and taking advantage of every single moment. In her eyes, interacting with the world in this way is crucial to remember how small we are yet how big of a part we play in making the world a more connected place.
During her time at IU, Jordan has received numerous honors and awards, including the 2022 MLK Building Bridges Award (awarded to those that exemplify Dr. King’s advocacy for equality, diversity, inclusion, and respect), as well as the 2021 Kelley Coin. She has also been recognized as one of Poets & Quants’ Top 100 Best & Brightest Business Majors for 2022. Jordan is also a Kelley Honors student, a Hutton Honors Scholar, a Hudson and Holland Scholar, a Provost’s Founders Scholar, amongst other academic recognitions.
Jordan’s Student Involvement
Jordan’s campus involvement runs deep within the Kelley School of Business as well as the rest of the IU campus. As Director of Health and Wellbeing for IU Student Government, her biggest accomplishment was working with IU Facilities to implement sanitary products in all-gender restrooms to promote equality for transgender students at IU. As Vice President of Outreach for Kelley Student Government, her biggest accomplishments include: constructing the first Black Student Action Committee, creating historic legislation mandating diversity representation for student organization panel attendees at the alumnus level, and initiating a school-wide campaign called “I Am, I Am Not” to dispel identity stereotypes and promote inclusion. As Director of Human Resources for Women in Business, she managed the recruitment process by implementing more inclusive admissions methods, such as including allyship-centered questions and blind application reading. As an IU Orientation Leader, she was able to spread joy and optimism to thousands of incoming families through formal presentations and information sessions, along with informal chats and late-night dance sessions. She also sits on various search committees, advisory committees to campus leadership, and is committed to mentoring younger students who come after her. Jordan also co-hosts a podcast centered on Black women reclaiming their voice and owning their space. Considering she hopes to become a globally known talk show host one day, hosting her podcast and seeing her work reach a worldwide audience is definitely one of her proudest accomplishments.
After Graduation
Jordan will be moving to Chicago to work at Bain & Company as an Associate Consultant. She is so blessed to have these opportunities and is committed to knocking down barriers for others who look like her to have a seat and voice at the table as well.
Acknowledgment
When reflecting back on who has made an impact in her time at IU, Jordan said:
Above all else, my biggest thank you and shoutout goes to my loving and powerful God for showing me every single day that all things are possible through Him. I also want to thank every single person that makes up my incredible village: my family (blood and chosen), my best friends, the Fry Scholars program, my Kelley family, and everyone in between that has supported me, cheered me on, and inspired me to shoot beyond the moon.”
