Congratulations to Caroline Duchette, one of the 2020 Mueller Award recipients. Caroline is earning a Bachelor of Arts with a major in International Studies and Portuguese both housed in the College of Arts and Science. Throughout her time at IU, Caroline has had the ability to go outside of her comfort zone and be able to accomplish the things she set her mind to. Among these include leading twice weekly English tutoring sessions on campus, completing two research theses, and observing negotiations on the Paris Agreement at the UN 25th Conference of Parties. She has been a part of various campus involvement offices; ranging from being a part of the Student Life Team in the Office of International Services and a Member of the Sexual Health Advocacy Group. Following graduation, Caroline will continue stepping out of her comfort zone working as a community health educator with the Peace Corps in Cameroon.
Caroline feels fortunate to have a number of amazing mentors during her time here at IU, she went on to say “All my mentors helped me become the leader and person that I am today. I am thankful for Katie Goodroad, Mai-Lin Poon, and everyone on the OIS staff for welcoming me into a community that hasshifted my mindset and shaped my goals. I would like to thank Jessica O’Reilly, Andrea Siqueira, and all of my other remarkable professors for their impact, their guidance, and for the
opportunities they have presented me with. I would like to thank Estela Vieira and the Portuguese department for their support, their community, and four wonderful years of language learning. I would also like to
thank my family and all of my friends for always believing in me!”
