Congratulations Tiffany Xie, the 2020 Clara Javan Goodbody Award recipient. This award is in memory of Clara Javan Goodbody, the mother of Louise Ann Goodbody who served as the Dean of Women from 1906-1911. This $2,500 award is given to a graduating senior woman for use in pursuing graduate study. As a Herman B Wells Scholar, this year’s honoree’s, outstanding scholarship earned dual degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Chemistry.
During her time at Indiana University, Tiffany was involved in various organizations, inside and outside of the classroom. Academically, she attended University College London where she focused her studies on literary criticism and scientific writing and studied abroad in Belize. While studying abroad in Belize, Tiffany collaborated with indigenous groups by implementing educational workshops in a rural Maya high school. Her campus involvement ranged from being a part of the Student Advisory Board, the Indiana University Journal of Undergraduate Research and the Indiana Daily Student to her community involvement with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and the Indiana University Health Hospice.
During her time at IU, Tiffany found her family and community here. She expressed so much gratitude towards Indiana University for her experiences and the people she met, she said, “[I have] so much love and gratitude for my parents and my sisters who I admire and learn from every day. And so much gratitude for my teachers and mentors who taught me to think for myself, encouraged me to write, and helped me grow.”
Tiffany will be attending the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in the fall.
