Get a taste of the backcountry this spring break. Join IU Outdoor Adventures (IUOA) in an adventure to the Ozark Mountains.
Catch breathtaking views climbing at the famous Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. Hike on the Buffalo River Trail along the nation’s first designated wild and scenic river. Witness views only seen in pictures—all with friends who love adventure.
The nine-day trip includes four days of climbing, three days of backpacking, and two days total for travel. The deadline to sign up is Thursday, February 28th and cost is $675. Stay tuned to IUOA social media for discounts!
Tyler Kivland, assistant coordinator of programs at IUOA, said the trip features a lot of sights unique to the area, such as elks roaming and the surreal sights of the Buffalo River. He said the culture and the environment of the Ozarks set the trip apart from the rest.
“You get to stand at the bottom of a bluff and realize how small you are,” Kivland said.
Although the area is largely unheard of, Kivland said among fellow adventurers, Horseshoe Canyon Ranch is a world-class destination.
“It’s a climber’s mecca,” Kivland said.
Besides outdoors activities, the trip involves exploring the history and general information on the ecosystems of the surrounding area.
Participation comes with a free membership to IU Outdoor Adventures. Members receive deals on gear, access to the IUOA bouldering wall, discounts to other trips, free workshops, and access to member-only trips.
