For the seventh time, Thomas Lewis and I have returned to Paros with a new group of students from The Luddy School of informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University Indianapolis ready to tell the amazing stories we continue to find on this island.
Coming back is always like a home-coming; the familiar sites, smells, and of course, all the friends we have made here over the years. It is somewhat surreal to once again be here. A student asked me if anything still amazes me after all the times I have been here- and the answer is always YES! There is always something new to discover, a different story and a different way of looking at the island and the world we live in.
All our students have safely arrived and are staying at the Villa Katerina, as we have for every year we have come. We start class Friday May 17, and will be working at the Archeological Institute of Paros right in the heart of Parikia where we have held classes in the past. It is within walking distance of our Villa and has a plethora of restaurants around us with amazing Greek food to be had.
Students have been relaxing for a couple days before we start our work and exploring the seaside restaurants and making new friends. It always takes a few days to recover from the jetlag of the 24-hour trip from Indiana to Paros. I think students fare much better than I do at this!
The adventure begins as we find what topics we will be working on this year, the new challenges that we face, and the stories yet to be told. We love returning to Paros to show students how we have fallen in love with such a wonderful and exciting place that we hope they can share with the world!
