Today I was able to meet and help record a man here in Paros who makes cleaning and hygiene products from waste called Bio Tev. As he spoke to us about how and why he does what he does he became emotional and even walked out to pull himself together. He is so moved by what he does that he gets disappointed when others do not believe in it or when companies charge him or help him out with the smallest favors. The main wastes he uses are from wine, cheese, and oil. He is so humble that when one of the guests thanked him for what he does for the island and commended him for traveling to convince others to recycle we all agreed and started to clap, but he stopped us and smiled.
They say money cannot buy you happiness but I disagree. Being here in Paros has given me a lot of happiness, and has allowed me to explore and observe more as well as forced me to relax. Anyone who really knows me knows that I am always completing tasks and thinking of the future ahead of time. Which can be stressful at times. I have been here for five days and have accepted that relaxation. Not thinking about my next move, or focusing on my dilemma’s, but actually relaxing, breathing, and enjoying nature, others, myself and being in the now/present. The culture and scenery is so beautiful here, it was definitely money well spent.
While here I have observed so much! I love how the children are so free and respectful here. They seem to be disciplined, eat healthy and play. When I have noticed children I see them playing soccer, playing around the island with other children and eating healthy foods such as celery, strawberries, and carrots. Compared to children at home you do not see that as much. The locals here are very friendly and patient. Everyone respects others, they move out of each other’s way on the road, communicate with each other to let someone through on the road instead of just going and expecting the other person to wait. They are very helpful when you are trying to find something or just need help with something in general. Although the prices here are reasonable it is still effective to price check because you definitely find something better or if the same value, but with a cheaper price. I love shopping here because the clothes are different from what you see in America, but also stylish and trendy. The food here is delicious! Anywhere you go to eat you will not be disappointed. From burgers, calamari, shrimp, zucchini, Greek pizza, pasta, beef, fried cheese, and more there is so much to choose from.
