Being in Paros has been amazing so far, and it’s only been a week. The scenery is the most beautiful I’ve seen, and the people are friendly and accepting of us. I can tell you I could not be happier to do homework.
Before going into college, I always heard college graduates talk about how one of the most important things to do in college is to study abroad if you get the chance, or how one thing they regret is not studying abroad. My original reaction to everyone saying this was that they just wanted an excuse to visit a different country. But now that I’m actually studying abroad, I see exactly where they are coming from. Studying abroad has already had an immensely positive impact on me. Not only are you learning new things during class, but you’re experiencing a whole new culture with a group of completely different people that somehow mesh so well together. You’re also learning about yourself along the way and growing as a person. Studying abroad will definitely put you out of your comfort zone, but it’s one of the best opportunities to take.
Paros is beautiful – everything about it makes me happy. More so, the company I have with me makes it even more beautiful. Not knowing anyone before the trip made me quite nervous, but now that we’re here we are already like family. I know I’ve already made friendships that will continue outside of our time abroad and memories that will last a lifetime. We had another group dinner last night, and I cannot tell you the last time I laughed as hard as I did that night – it’s always a good time with these people.
If you have the chance to study abroad, even if it’s only for a week or two, jump at it. You have to go into the experience with an open heart and mind, but if you can do that I promise you won’t regret it.
