Today marked another day of exploration on the island of Paros. As a group, we have experienced a lot of unexpected delays and traveling fatigue, so much so that we were given some much needed down time before the rigors of project work. Several years before, I was here as a student and I am thrilled to come back and be a part of such a great experience again. This time around I was given the opportunity to support the students and professors as the Student Learning Assistant.
After a good breakfast, we headed off to explore more of the island. I noticed several improvements to shops and buildings. I was also glad to see some new additions such as a donut shop close to the hotel and a sushi restaurant on the waterfront. I was happy to see some of the people I knew from my first visit and was shocked that a few even recognized me.
In the afternoon the students either went to the beach, the pool or walked around the shops on Paros. I ended up visiting a shoemaker with three other students, and we reaped the benefits of the hard working Garra Rufa Fish who will eat all the dead skin off your feet.
Later in the day, several students went to the beach, and several went to the pool. During my swim in the pool, one of the girls noticed a lizard had fallen in. We made a valiant attempt to rescue the lizard, but he had already died. It wasn’t long before we discovered another creature, a very determined centipede who was inching his way across the bottom of the pool. That was my cue to exit the lovely body of water.
In the evening we all gathered for some great Greek food, a little planning, and group photo. The best thing about Paros is that I feel very at home here.
