Chancellor Allison’s statement:
For years, Indiana University South Bend has welcomed international students and scholars to campus to study, learn and teach. Today we have nearly 300 students of international origin who help enrich the education of all of us through their perspectives and experiences. In addition, IU South Bend has a number of faculty and staff with international backgrounds who strengthen our students’ experience while contributing to our region. To our international students, faculty, and staff, I would like to repeat that you are welcome here and we support you during this time of uncertainty.
As chancellor I would like to reinforce the statement from Indiana University President Michael McRobbie about the federal executive order on immigration signed by President Trump. The action is contrary to the core of our values as an institution. It makes us weaker, not safer. President McRobbie’s entire statement can be found here.
The IU South Bend Office of International Student Services is in communication with students and is providing information and support. A website provides updates.
I encourage the campus to continue to show its support for international students, faculty, and staff and to remain a strong voice for them in the community and the nation. I also encourage members of our campus community to engage actively and deeply in the great civic debates that are taking place. Please offer your perspectives and insights to your elected representatives, participate in public meetings, and engage your fellow students and neighbors. Your voice is essential.
Chancellor Terry L. Allison
