In the October Senate meeting we briefly discussed the Better IU initiative launched by President McRobbie in recent weeks to improve IU administrative policies and procedures that might be hindering the good work of the university. The website has been launched and a task force assembled. The memorandum establishing the initiative is also available there.
One possible shortcoming–too early to tell, of course–is that the task force team seems to be made up entirely of high level folks from the IU central administration. If by chance there are things about IU–ways to improve IU–that are easier to see clearly from the margins, then this team will have extra challenges in getting its work done. A more diverse team might have an easier go of it. Or perhaps this group has members especially skillful at overcoming this potential limitation.
