In this blog we are going to talk about how even today that there is no such thing in my opinion as a completely preventable pregnancy. There are birth controls out there that actually happen to not work for some people, there are other contraceptives that also do not always work or malfunction. Condoms are known to work about anywhere from 85 to 99 percent of the time. That is a big range of is this going to work or not. I also know that when I was in health classes during high school they talked about how they can break and that they can have holes poked in them. I also get that there are two different forms of condoms. Male and female. There are many different forms of birth control, like the patch, pill, IUD, and implant. Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. When reading the article they talked about how there is an issue with just letting those with a uterus chose what is best for their families, bodies, and what their doctors think will be the best for them. They also mentioned that there was a point in time where they were saying that if they want the level of abortion rates to go down that they need to be safe, legal, and not to happen often. But we also saw where it was happening in homes before there were even names for birth control and abortions. They would make special drinks with herbs and what they considered potions. These were considered to be troublesome and risky. Apparently there were some that were less invasive than others. In the late 1800’s abortions were not legal in the fifty states. Margaret Sanger is the lady who came up with the term birth control and she also founded planned parenthood! Putting women’s health at risk because there are accidental pregnancies was something that she was very passionate about fighting against! There are many issues when it comes to what to consider an “unwanted pregnancy”. It was common that black women got raped which lead to unwanted and unplanned pregnancies and they could not always afford the child that they were practically forced to get pregnant with. When they realized that terminating the pregnancy would be frowned upon that lead them to carrying the baby to term. Even when doing this they still struggled so that led many women to sign up for assistance through the state, food stamps, wic, and health coverage. It did not matter what color you were, every woman that could not make it with a child applied. While this is a touchy topic for some people or an awkward one it is something that I do believe we need to start informing kids in middle and high schools about sooner and more in depth.

Something I always recall being told in high school was that the best form of prevention was abstinence, due to how unsure people can really rely on these types of protection you mentioned. Another thing I recall was that using both types of condoms at the same time wasn’t okay, since they would have a higher chance to tear. None of it seems totally reliable to the average teen, and is not completely preventable. Good job on your post overall.
Thanks Trey! Abstinence is also something else I thought about and how we always heard about it, but you are my brother and we both went to the same high school and you and I both saw first hand that them talking about it did not really do any good. There is a few girls I went to school with that have like four or five kids and they had two of them while still in high school.
