Our student ambassadors share why public health and health administration is important to them.
Kate Colpetzer, Health Services Management student
Healthcare administration is important to me because it means that our healthcare system can run efficiently and effectively for the populations who most need it. Public health is vital for the flourishing and wellbeing of communities across our nation.
Lucy Khatib, Epidemiology student
Public health for me is so important because it involves directly changing and bettering a community with a problem. This is why I chose to pursue public health at IUPUI. Along my academic journey, I have learned about how multidisciplinary the world of public health is. Everyone benefits from public health and is an active role in forming this environment.
As a disease nerd, I love epidemiology but I also appreciate environmental aspects to public health. It is important for those pursuing this career to go out into the community and form connections! Our school allows for opportunities like internships, volunteering opportunities, and traveling abroad to improve upon one’s understanding of public health.
Jaida Speth, Health Services Management student
“Health care is vital to all of us some of the time, but public health is vital to all of us all of the time.”
Public health is important to me because it is a powerful tool used to level the playing field. I am very passionate about achieving health equity and public health works to bend the arc of healthcare away from distrust and toward justice.
I am elated to be receiving my Master’s in Health Administration from a school of public health because it is the best of both worlds. I am learning how to facilitate patient care through a public health lens, rather than a business lens. What does public health mean to you?
