We asked our student ambassadors to describe one goal they would like to achieve this semester and how they plan to accomplish it.
Kate Colpetzer, Epidemiology student
One goal that I have for myself this fall 2022 semester is to strive to have the highest GPA when compared to my previous semesters. One way that I am planning on achieving this goal is to plan out a structured schedule.
I will be marking off specific blocks of the day for only study time! That way I don’t neglect studying and can make sure that I thoroughly understand the material. Studying is hard, especially when you have to balance fitting it in with a busy schedule.
My tip is to treat school like a job and make studying a part of your daily routine. It’s not only for cramming the night before. It is important to know when and where you’ll do something. Make sure to hold yourself accountable and don’t put off assignments. This is how I’m planning on achieving my goal.
Ameriah Jackson, Health Systems Management student
One of the biggest goals I have set for the upcoming semester is to utilize my resources to the fullest. I recently started using LinkedIn, which has become extremely helpful in finding a new job and to network with different students and professionals. Another resource I plan on exploring deeper is YouTube.
I will be releasing a “back-to-school” vlog on FSPH’s YouTube channel right before we return to classes. Be sure to be on the lookout for that release! Comment below what your goals are for the upcoming semester!
Lucy Khatib, Epidemiology student
This upcoming school year I am urging both myself and others to use school-provided resources such as the Bepko Learning Center at IUPUI.
Typically, I used this center for help during finals week. This year it is my goal to use the tutoring resources weekly to build a better understanding. Personally, I learn best from other students rephrasing confusing concepts. This really helped in Biology, since the TAs had taken the same class previously.
It is also nice opportunity to meet new classmates and work together. When giving advice for freshman orientation I am recommending using Bepko Learning Center at IUPUI, the MAC and the Speakers Lab.
Jaida Speth, Health Services Management student
As the countdown to the first day of the fall semester at IUPUI continues to dwindle, I have started to set semester goals for myself. It can be really hard for me to take time for myself once classes and softball get rolling, but I am making an effort to change that this semester.
A goal that I am particularly passionate about achieving is taking time to do something that I really love and that is reading. I want to read 10 new books before the semester is over! My plan is to switch out scrolling on my phone for reading a book for at least 30 minutes at the end of every day.
There are so many benefits to reading that include reducing stress as well as improving memory and communication skills. And as I head into the last two semesters of graduate school and my last season of college softball, I know that these skills will be imperative to continue to develop!
