What do you want to know about the novel coronavirus COVID-19? Thomas Duszynski, an epidemiologist with the IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, joined IUPUI for a live Q&A on Monday, March 23.
He explains epidemiology and its relevance to the coronavirus pandemic happening today, as well as why there’s an expectation for things to get worse before they get better.
Duszynski also answers a host of questions from IUPUI students, which include (but are not limited to):
- What sources should we look to for factual information?
- Can someone be a carrier without they themselves being sick?
- When are things going to get better?
- How does China not have any new cases when they have billions of people living there?
- How long does the virus live on surfaces?
- What should the government do next to prevent the spread of the disease?
- What steps are being taken in the US to increase baseline medical capacity?
- Should we expect a COVID-19 season like the influenza season?
- How long do we practice social distancing after cases peak?
- What do you suggest for people whose companies won’t close down, such as those who work in retail?
