Transitioning from working in the office to working from home can be a bit overwhelming — but no need to panic. Here are some tips to help with the transition and recreate your typical work routine.
Location:
Although this seems like a given, choosing a space designated for work at home can help you jump back into your routine. If you can, pick a workspace or setup that reminds you of your own. This can help ease your mind about working remotely.
Brighten up your space with some fresh flowers or plants. They’ll cheer you up and add a pop of color.
Make a schedule:
Your typical day at work might look different from one day to another, but there are still some things you do regularly, like grabbing some coffee before getting to work or taking your lunch break at noon each day.
Setting up a schedule that works at your most productive times can keep you from getting distracted by your phone, house duties or taking long breaks. Consider quiet mornings for checking easy tasks off your daily to-do list and afternoons for creative activity.
Communicate:
As you transition from the bustling office space where you can say “Hey!” to your favorite coworker every day, you’ll now have to communicate more through Zoom conversations, Slack, or over the phone. It is important to maintain your connections to them during this time to foster a sense of community while in social isolation. Check in with your team regularly, ask how they are doing personally, and ask what things they are doing to care for themselves during this historic time.
