Courtney Paige “CP” Harrough
MSHM Executive track
Where were you prior to MSHM? (Undergrad major, undergrad university, job?)
I completed my bachelor’s degree in psychology at The University of Memphis focusing on Human Sexuality Education. Following graduation, I have spent the recent 8 years working within the field of sexual health education, specifically from a lens of sexual violence research and prevention.
What project(s) are you working on at your practicum site?
Currently, I am not assigned to a practicum site, however, I look forward to future opportunities to learn from experts in the field of public health.
What skills are you using most at your practicum site (that you learned through your MSHM coursework)?
When that time comes, I look forward to transferring skills developed around communication, operationalizing ideas, and cost-effectiveness in projects and programs to culturally, socially, and responsibly contextualize healthcare access and services for individuals and communities.
Have you attended any career fairs/networking events? Who did you meet? What did you take away from this experience?
Yes, I did attend a School of Public Health Career Fair in the Fall 2023 Semester. I found the experience to be well organized, supportive, and a space to meet people from various backgrounds and interests. The experience afforded me the setting to gather in conversation with over 45 organizations in the field of medicine, consulting, public health, non-profit, and government to better understand my own goals through learning more about their experiences.
Have you worked with career services at Kelley or O’Neill? What did you take away from this experience?
No, I have not worked with career services at Kelley or O’Neil. I am confident they are offering comprehensive support and will be there should I have any questions.
Do you feel supported by program faculty and staff?
Yes, I do. Both Director April Grudi and Assistant Director Lyndsey Swan are incredibly compassionate towards students. All of my interactions with them have been rooted in curiosity, a willingness to help, and encouragement for all of the cohort members to succeed!
Do you feel connected to your peers (in your cohort)?
Yes, I do! I believe the cohort does their best to remain intentionally connected to one another given the varying schedules, responsibilities, and professional goals we all bring to the team.
What is your favorite part of the MSHM program thus far?
My favorite part would have to be working alongside members of the Kelley School of Business Faculty to learn more about how finance and business decisions drive and shape the medical industry and those of us who work within it or seek resources from practitioners and providers.
