Name: Chase Meyer
Graduation Year: 2024
Q: Where were you prior to MSHM?
A: I completed my undergrad at Indiana University Bloomington with a major in Healthcare Management and Policy with a minor in Financial Management.
Q: What project(s) are you working on at your practicum site?
A: I’m currently at Riley Children’s Hospital working with the Operational Excellence team. We are working on transforming the management system using lean methodologies to create a more efficient operation system. We are working with separate departments within the hospital crafting and advising a plan to improve their problem-solving strategies, creating standards for practice, and constructing teams to focus on different components of operations including patient experience, team member experience, financial metrics, and other strategies to build an operationally excellent approach.
Q: Do you feel supported by program faculty and staff?
A: Coming into the MSHM program I was worried that it would be a high-stress experience, but I quickly learned that I have one of the best support systems around me including faculty and my cohort. Our business foundations coursework over the summer was exhaustive but my cohort immediately came together to help each other out and it made it a great experience learning alongside my peers. I feel very valued in this program with the constant direction and support from directors Lyndsey Swan and April Grudi.
Q: What is your favorite part of the MSHM program thus far?
A: My favorite part about this program is seeing the experiences that me and my peers get through practicum and other events. It’s rewarding seeing my cohort turn into health professionals and continue to grow in their careers. Right away members of my cohort got together and went bowling and shared a great time and that’s when I knew it would be easy to bond with the members of this group. We work very well together and I’m excited to see how the rest of the year goes for us!
