Name: Yongchan Lee
Graduation Year: 2022
Q: Where were you placed for your practicum site?
A: For my practicum experience, I worked as a Project Coordinator Intern with the Culture of Safety team, System Nursing at IU Health. The project I led focused on developing a consolidated dashboard using the STEEEP (Safe, Timely, Effective, Efficient, Equitable, Patient-Center) framework by identifying key metrics that would indicate IU Health is advancing the culture of safety. Some skills that I used were the project management skills that were taught during the Practicum courses. These kept me organized on the project’s progress and made it easy to identify any ‘ask for help’ categories that I brought up during individual meetings with my preceptor, Mary Drewes, and group meetings with the team.
Q: Did you feel supported by the MSHM family?
A: Everyone in the MSHM program and my course professors were incredibly supportive. They all wanted me and my cohort to succeed throughout the program. Whether it would be about questions on an assignment or a quick chat about my career goals, they were always available to schedule a time to meet.
Q: What was your favorite part of the MSHM program?
A: My favorite part of this program is undoubtedly my cohort. Especially coming from a different university and location, I imagined adjusting to Bloomington and the MSHM program would be challenging before arriving. My cohort was supportive and very welcoming right from the start, which made it easier to transition into the program and the area. We all entered the program with different backgrounds, undergraduate institutions, and experience levels. However, we relied on each other and cheered for each other’s success early on, and I believe that was the fuel to have a successful and memorable year together!
