Q: Where were you before the MSHM program?
A: Before the Executive MSHM program, I worked in HR Consulting, a niche industry. During the program, I changed careers to Health and Wellness IT Consulting, focusing on transformational process improvements. I chose this program because I wanted to move out of HR Consulting and into Healthcare Management, which I studied as an undergraduate. I also chose this program for the opportunities to gain Transformational Leadership experience, a foundational understanding of how public policy influences business, and how creativity in business can also influence public policy, especially in Healthcare.
Q: What has been one of the most impactful parts of the MSHM program?
A: One of the most impactful aspects of the program is its design. As I am at the end of it, I’m grateful I took the ECBLS MBA Certificate program tin he first year, then focused on the O’Neill Public Policy courses in the second year. The MBA courses were fundamental in helping me apply creative thinking to Health Policy discussions and assignments, which was especially impactful in both Health Policy and The Washington Campus courses, where I experienced policy decisions first-hand in Washington D.C. Additionally, taking the program online allowed me to learn from the comfort of my home, choose my environment on my own time, and create my own schedule. I also worked remotely for almost the entire MSHM program, which helped me transition almost seamlessly from work to online learning for classes at the end of my workday.
Lastly, the degree is worth it. If you’re considering the degree but are on the fence, try to find out if there will be others in your cohort. Even if you don’t know them at the start, having that social support during the program of others who are in your same shoes works wonders for perseverance, late-night laughter, and camaraderie.”
