Q: Describe your MSHM journey
A: Before the MSHM program, I graduated from IU Bloomington with a BA in Biology. My original plan was to begin working as a scribe post-college to prepare myself for Physicians Assistant school; however, the pandemic made me rethink holding a position on the front line of healthcare. I knew I wanted to help improve people’s lives, but I didn’t know exactly what this looked like for me until I joined the MSHM program.
Q: Tell us about your practicum experience
A: During my practicum experience at the American Red Cross, my main projects involved process improvement and optimization efforts. My first project was the construction of a business case for one of our facilities in Muncie Indiana. My capstone project for practicum was a really cool experience where I developed my own analytical excel tool for the Red Cross real estate department. Essentially, the tool helps standardize the process of evaluating properties in the Indiana real estate portfolio. This tool is intended to help the user make more informed decisions on current and future properties and their potential effectiveness in delivering the Red Cross Mission.
Q: What was the most impactful knowledge learned during your time in the MSHM program?
A: I would say the organizational skills I developed in the program have been the biggest help so far! As a sourcing analyst for SCL Health – Colorado, I have to manage information and data from many different sources, and being able to keep track of it all can be difficult. I need to be very diligent in my work, and the program’s coursework surely helped me hone this skill!”
